One player limps in. Hyjack raises ($16). He is Data from the CPMG, my former home poker group from Cleveland, and a bunch of them are in Las Vegas for this weekend. I'm next to act in the Cutoff, and I 3-Bet ($24) with As 7c 7h 4h. I know that doesn't seem like a hand to 3-Bet, and that is correct. So why did I do it?
Many people say they don't like going to casinos with their friends, because they don't want to take their money when they could just do it in their home game. I don't have this issue, as I have no problem separating business from friendship. I actually was looking to get a couple of hands for the blog on this trip. Plus, I want to get my hands on some Cleveland money, as it smells just a little sweeter to me.
Back to the action... It folds to the BB, who calls the two bets. This isn't surprising, as he has been a world-class calling station so far. The Limper also calls. Flop is 8c 6d 5s. The BB bets ($8). Limper folds. Hyjack calls. I raise ($8) with the 2nd Nut Straight and an A4 Low. I doubt my Low is any good, but my Straight should be good, as it's doubtful that someone has 97 in their hand. The BB calls, but Data in the Hyjack 3-Bets ($24).
This is quite surprising, and I ask myself the obvious question, "What hand would he just call, and then 3-Bet?" I pretty sure he has A2 at least. I doubt he has a Set, as most players would raise with that. The only hand I can put him on is something like A23. He could assume that someone else also has A2, and he would have a redraw in case an A or 2 hits the Board.
I really don't have a Low that will come into play unless a 2 hits the Board. I just call, and so does the BB. Turn [8c 6d 5s] Qd. BB checks. Hyjack bet ($16). Again, I just call, and so does the BB.
River [8c 6d 5s Qd] Kh. Once again, the BB checks and Data bet ($16). That board hasn't really changed since the Flop, so I have no reason to think my Straight isn't the best Hi hand. I glance over at the BB, who looks like he's already grabbing chips to call. I think they both have A2, so I raise ($32). As expected, the BB cold-calls, and so does the Hyjack.
I say Straight, and show my hand. Data shows Ad Td 8d 2h for the Nut Low. I have no clue why he 3-Bet on the Flop, unless he thought his Top Top was actually good for the High. The BB shows A2XX for the Nut Low. I get the High pot, and they get quartered for the Low.
I will certainly admit that I got lucky with this hand. Not with flopping a Straight, but by having it hold up. The Board ran out very nicely for me, with no Flushes, or Full Houses, or other Straights to counterfeit mine.
But I also saw the situation properly, and got an extra Value Bet on the River. In Limit Poker, making the extra bet or saving the extra bet is how you become a winning player.

Your hand looks a lot like an A2 getting value from 2 competing high hands. If so, I have you 3/4ed. The BB could have any random draws, I'm not worried about him.
Thus the back raise on the flop. When you didn't raise back, it confirmed you didn't have a 2-way hand. This is also the reason to keep the lead on turn/river.
Btw, the BB had AA2. Him being so terrible saved me some money.
This had to be something to see in person. I wish I could've been there for it. You're playing a non-nut straight and garbage low like a scooper and he's jamming the pot with a one way hand. AWESOME.
